Fiction, Facts & Folklore:

Scapolite is most often seen in a yellow state, although it also can be found in shades of pink, gray, blue & lavender.

When found in its colorless state, it has been mistaken for white sapphire & white topaz as well.

It is often confused with the yellow plagioclase feldspar known as labradorite. To make things even more confusing, it can sometimes be found in conjunction with deposits of plagioclase feldspar.

Scapolite also can be seen cut en cabochon to display an asterism, or cats eye.

Scapolite can give off an eerie glow similar to the adularesence of the moonstone.

Scapolite is sometimes known as wernerite. It takes this rather odd sounding name from the noted German gemologist A.G. Werner.
